Help with Film Classifications:

Film Reviews for Family use:

We sometimes get asked at the ticket booth as to whether or not a film is suitable for younger people that are in the car. This is really a decision that needs to be made by the Parents or Guardians of the young people concerned.

We can suggest a web site for you to have a look at; called "Young Media Australia" which has information and film reviews that may assist you in making decisions for your family.

Go to http://www.youngmedia.org.au/ and click on "Movie Reviews". (There are several other sites that deal with movie reviews for family use, but please keep in mind that any American review site you visit will be using the American ratings system, which is different from the Australian system.)

Film Classifications:

Parents should also be guided by the Classification Rating that the film has been given.

Most films are classified by the Federal Government's "Office of Film and Literature Classification". (Some films qualify for an "Exemption" status)

Their web page is www.oflc.gov.au ; we would particularly draw Parents attention to the following link http://www.oflc.gov.au/special.html?n=244&p=180#20 which describes the differences between G, PG, M15+ and MA15+.

If you are unsure about the rating of an upcoming movie, you can run a search via this O.F.L.C. web page, under the heading "Search Classification Decisions". There are options available for a simple search or an advanced search.

We hope this has been of help.
